Jonelle Perritt primarily uses her mental health wanderings and personal experiences as inspiration for her work.
During and beyond childhood she experienced frequent nightmares that, as a young adult studying art in college, grew increasingly more violent. This led to the discovery of a previously undiagnosed mental health disorder - but also opened her up to exploring her psyche through art.
She explored using a technique similar to the automatic drawing process of the Dadaist and Surrealist artists of the early 20th century to allow her paintings to come from her subconscious - and began utilizing imagery from her dreams and nightmares.
Jonelle received her B.F.A. in painting and art history from Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI. She lived in Canada briefly, working at an art studio on a mural for a school for children with autism, and later lived briefly in Germany, whilst studying German and applying for M.F.A. programs; personal circumstances brought her back to the states where she creates in her home studio today.
